A clue to how a society is going and what direction to take is advertising. People and companies spend fortunes on advertising every year, every month, every week. Just a cursory look at what is advertised will tell you something about the society we live in and its values. Another indicator is to see what the media is paying attention. This is even scarier and more disgusting to me that the indicators of advertising. In a sense, both tell us what is important for citizens and what the public is buying in terms of physical objects and the social and political concerns. Watch the news. It used to be that the news was really news - something that is going to affect our political and social life. Every time a story is "hot" is sucking the life stories that are important in less attractive, less "tabloid" issues. The imminent collapse of Social Security and Medicare, disorder horrendous income tax, any real discussion about how to deal with the Middle East - these are all happily pushed aside by the explosion of a repulsive constant and repeated broadcasts on Paris Hilton, Britney Britain and the death of Anna Nicole Smith. This strikes me as not only disgusting and ugly, but frankly, very afraid. Increasingly important issues are taken into account while the tabloid issues take front and center. Increasingly we see the same phrases word of mouth by newscasters who mourn 'tragic' in relation to Anna Nicole Smith and the "hot spot" in relation to Paris Hilton. And these stories go on the week with any news cycles that ignore the most important issues. The terrible thing is that obviously people are watching this trash, and this is really scary for me because it means you are not demanding that news broadcasters to return to reporting on matters of importance. In a sense, the press itself has become a great advertising medium because things sell newspapers and tabloid media. The news has always been in love with the negative reporting, but increasingly, we see an increase in reporting on high-profile sports figures who behave like thugs. It is as if these people are important to our lives and our future. It has always been a symbiotic relationship between the public and the media. If people turn off the news irrelevant and stop taking the papers announcing the garbage reporting, this would be more balanced, we begin to see some interesting and important issues that actually begin to appear. If I hear again the phrase "global warming" I'm going to vomit. Neither the media nor the politicians have allowed alternative viewpoints on the issue of climate change than any voice whatsoever. It is as if all dissenters with the argument about the human causes of climate change are dismissed with a stubbornness frightening echoes of those controlled by the fascist regimes of the past. Silence any opposition, ignoring it and expanding only one point of view. This was the method used by Hitler and Mussolini before the war Germany and Italy to convince the entire population of a particular viewpoint, and it is quite frightening and horrible. It seems that every time we see in the media just one point of view we are in danger of being manipulated by political and social reasons that have nothing to do with the issue in hand. Now advertising. Advertisers are constantly promoting Viagra and many medications that focus on sexual performance. Sexy women in tight pants that have become more and more "hard" and fewer cars and less feminine sell. I've really noticed that has become dominated prime time ads for Viagra, the drug ads to make us sleep, our happiness, our kids less trouble in school. Then there are the ads that scream loudmouth lawyers who can get the money for us "demands damages" in respect of any number of things. Have lung disease? A. Call your lawyer Having a child with cerebral palsy or autism? Call the attorney B. What about heart disease or death? Call Attorney C, which can make a case that was caused by antidepressants or any number of other things. In short, advertising in the moment largely been dominated by main trading ads with sex and drugs claims. If that does not pause to anyone to ask what the American public is buying, I do not know what it is. Frankly, these trends are not only unpleasant, but they are quite disturbing and frightening. What they show us about ourselves and our willingness to pay attention to these ads and are concerned about the tabloid useless "information" is a reflection of our willingness to accept what is produced the way no doubt. They are just fads. They are a reflection of a society that is losing cohesion and decent moral standards. They are, in fact, indicators of increasing selfishness, self-centered stupidity, and indifference of our unity of common purpose and principles.
